Your Host – Carol Cretella

Hi, I’m Carol Cretella, Yoga instructor and licensed Art of Feminine Presence teacher. I am always amazed at the transformational power of gathering like-minded women together with the purpose of enlightenment, healing and growth.

My spiritual path began with the exhaustion and overwhelm that accompanied my frenzy to “do it all” as a career woman, wife and mother. A car accident, the resulting chronic pain, and burn-out amplified my inner voice that was screaming for change.

Trusting my intuition, I left my six-figure job and enrolled in the Yoga teacher training program at the New York Integral Yoga Institute. Soon after, my family and I relocated to San Diego where I’ve taught thousands of students the restorative, therapeutic, and spiritually uplifting benefits of Yoga.

A decade later, my heart and spirit said, “I want to make a bigger impact!” Once again, purely on intuition, I attended a teacher training of “The Art of Feminine Presence”. I learned powerful practices to reconnect with my feminine wisdom and to stand in my power. That connection gave me an ability to listen inwardly for the personal truth that leads to peaceful decision-making and the well-being that flows from that.

I envision a world where all women are strongly connected to both the softness and the power of their Feminine Essence. I am committed to helping women grow to their higher potential so they can be seen, heard and play a role in making the world a more loving, peaceful and empowered place.

Creative Cuisine Team – Lena Staton and Lauren Sitzmann

Lena Staton embraces cooking as a journey of discovery as well as a love language. She gifts her homemade kombucha, pesto, cashew cream cheese, tea, home baked artisan bread and countless other creations, to anyone lucky enough to be in her circle. Here is Lena’s story:

“I was born in 1954 in a sugar plantation town on Maui, Hawaii. Homes were tiny, streets were narrow, and communities were close-knit. Backyards had chickens, fruit trees, and vegetable gardens. Neighbors were close friends who loved to share their bounty from the earth.

Besides the native Hawaiians, there were Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Puerto Ricans, Filipinos, Koreans and African-Americans. Each culture brought the cuisine of their ancestors to Hawaii. All influenced the local “Hawaiian” kau kau (food) we enjoy eating today and inspires my every day cooking.

I was deeply influenced by my Dad who cooked using vegetables that he grew in our large backyard garden. My dad was also a fisherman. Fish, crab, and sometimes lobsters graced our dinner table. Like my dad, I collect, open, and grate coconuts to make milk. I use coconut milk in the delectable Filipino desserts my Dad taught me to make, as well as in my own edible creations.

I enjoy being creative in the kitchen with produce from my garden. I’ll sometimes do a quick stir fry of my veggies as the Chinese did. Other times I’ll use my home grown taro leaves to make Hawaiian luau stew, a modern variation of the Hawaiian Lau Lau. When my Japanese friend gives me frozen grated green bananas, instead of making Puerto Rican Pasteles the traditional way, I choose to make a Pasteles stew.

My culinary training has been my lifelong love of food, the rich diversity of Hawaii’s cultural cuisine, the abundance of home-grown produce, and the experimental laboratory that is my kitchen. I believe our culinary creations start with the experiences that shape who we are, and continue to a higher, unique expression as we fearlessly experiment with different food resources, spices and techniques. I’ve been creating good, healthy dishes as far back as I can remember. So, can you. Be fearless, use wholesome fresh foods to create a healthier you.”

Lauren Sitzmann

While other young girls begged for toys or dolls for presents, Lauren delighted in receiving cookbooks and kitchen essentials from her Grandma who recognized and nurtured her granddaughter’s early passion for food and love of the kitchen. Lauren grew up watching countless hours of the Food Network, recreating recipes for her appreciative family members. For her, cooking became an expression of love, a way of caring for others.

Lauren has turned her childhood passion for wellness into a successful career over the last nine years. She started as a certified health coach, helping people to reach their wellness goals. Along the way, Lauren deepened her knowledge of the science behind the nutrition by earning her Master’s Degree in Nutritional Sciences and becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.

These days, Lauren can be found in her kitchen experimenting with and comparing different foods, always willing to explore hot new trends. Currently she is having fun experimenting with mushrooms. As Lauren explains, mushrooms are anti-inflammatory, packed full of adaptogens, high in fiber, and can be used to mimic the texture and chewiness of meat. She loves King Trumpet and in particular, Lion’s Mane mushrooms which have amazing health benefits of improving focus and memory.

Lauren is all about making nutrition personal and practical. She believes it should be based on solid science but also fit into our everyday lives. Her holistic approach emphasizes whole foods, mindful eating, and finding balance. Lauren loves empowering people to make smart lasting changes that nurture both their bodies and their minds, encouraging them to see wellness as a lifestyle rather than just a one-time goal.

I was searching for a women-only retreat that offered a self-improvement teaching program, a variety of other activities, and yoga. When I read the description, I felt like this retreat was designed for me!

The location is absolutely stunning, high up with forever views of the peaceful mountains all around. The retreat house is gorgeous and the rooms are pristine and comfortable.

Carol and her team are fantastic! They made me feel welcomed and well taken care of. They also did the cooking, both gals really amazingly talented and creative chefs. The food was healthy and delicious. I also loved the craft workshop – so relaxing and fun!

In addition to the spectacular location, delicious healthy food, yoga and camaraderie – what I didn’t expect was to be so blown away by Carol’s teachings. She shared her story of being chronically sick in her thirties, how she went on a journey of exploration to get to a place where she is the healthiest, youngest looking 69-year-old ever and has amazing energy and fitness. I am so inspired by Carol and will be incorporating what I learned from her to improve my own level of health and fitness.

Carol is one of the best yoga instructors I have ever had the pleasure to take a class with. She creates a smooth flow to the class with her relaxing vocal tone and clear, easy to follow guidance. I will be signing up for her online yoga now that the retreat is over.

My experience there was truly transformative. I left feeling revitalized and recharged. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

April 2024

This retreat was, for me, not only a wonderful, empowering and transformative experience but also exactly what I needed at this point in my life. Although I was apprehensive before the retreat about being with complete strangers, at the end of our time in retreat together, there was not a single woman there whom I didn’t wish to pursue a deeper friendship.

Carol is a talented teacher and a skilled facilitator. She introduced us to the essence of the Art of Feminine Presence and molded this group of strangers into a supportive community of women in whose company I was able to begin moving forward and out of an unhealthy rut. I am most grateful.

Regarding the yoga – I had been a student in Carol’s yoga class for a month, so I was already a fan! She is very knowledgeable in all things yoga and imparts her love of the practice to her students. She has a gift for teaching & her soothing voice lends to a calming environment. During the retreat, she seemed to move us more deeply into the practice and I found myself emotionally moved at times.

I began the retreat not knowing what to expect and left wanting more of this good and positive experience. It is with great excitement that I anticipate continuing my transformative journey with Carol’s yoga classes and her next retreat offering.

April 2024

I so enjoyed this retreat. Carol with her insight, wisdom, gentle but strong feminine presence makes this retreat a very unique experience. I am looking forward to take this journey with Carol to the next level. If anyone wants some time to spend with their own beautiful inner self, this retreat is a great way to connect.

If you’re craving a break from the daily grind and a chance to relax in the beauty of nature, then this retreat is just what you need!

October 2023

I left the retreat feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. I acquired so many new tools to help me get rid of mind chatter and find inner peace on a daily basis.

The food at the retreat was both delicious and healthy which is something that Carol kept stressing – that eating healthy can be an enjoyable journey.

Carol’s workshops about self-love and self-care was an eye-opener for me! I have always had so much guilt about what I should do as far as taking care of others first. Now I know that I need to prioritize myself in order to fully be there for others and so that I can fully shine as the unique person that I am.

I look forward to Carol’s next retreat.

October 2023

The session where Carol told us about “holding space” was something I took away with me. I think about all the times I interrupt someone when they are talking, to give advice or “get in” what I want to say. I am trying to hold space with my daughter and she has become so much more willing to one up and talk to me, if she feels she’s being heard and listened to.

I have never spent a long period of time in the company of a group of women before; especially one where those in the circle were brave enough to share – “warts and all”. The sharing was intense and emotional, but also powerful and sometimes liberating. When I needed to “retreat” and be alone, I could think about myself and who I am, without feeling self-absorbed or selfish.

Since my return, I have felt at peace. I feel more confident and I’m finding joy in the simpler things in life. More and more I am learning to appreciate myself for who I am.

Carol radiates confidence, passion, beauty and a strong Feminine Presence.
